AgustaWestland & Danish Aerotech Sign Wide Ranging Heads of Agreement to Explore Future Collaboration

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, and Danish Aerotech A/S are pleased to announce that they have today signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) which will see the two companies explore a wide range of potential business opportunities in Denmark.

These opportunities include the provision of comprehensive support services in Denmark for the AW helicopter fleet and in particular for the AW159 helicopter that AgustaWestland has offered Denmark as its solution for the Danish Maritime Helicopter Programme. Danish Aerotech is Denmark’s leading provider of aircraft and helicopter support services including line to depot level maintenance and performance based logistics.

“AgustaWestland is successfully delivering comprehensive integrated support and training programs in several key markets, and in particular with the AW101 and Apache in the UK, resulting in reduced maintenance costs and increased availability for the end user”, says Giacomo Saponaro, Senior Vice President, AgustaWestland International Government Business unit.

Danish Aerotech and AgustaWestland have also included in the HoA plans to co-operate on the discharge of offset obligations worldwide and future Danish Industrial Co-Operation obligations.

“We believe there is a significant potential for helicopter maintenance and performance based logistics in Denmark, providing operators sizable savings and possibly creating hundreds of jobs in the region. Danish Aerotech is ideally located at AFB Karup close to the RDAF Helicopter Wing and is the only Danish company with experience in providing maintenance services to the air force on the fleet of trainer aircraft”, says CEO Jan Jørgensen of Danish Aerotech.

AgustaWestland has offered the AW159 helicopter for Denmark’s Maritime Helicopter Programme. The AW159 is a new helicopter that has been developed to replace Lynx helicopters operated by the British Army and Royal Navy. Deliveries of the 62 AW159s ordered by the UK Ministry of Defence will commence in April 2012. The AW159 is an off-the-shelf solution with the advantage that it can be accommodated on all the existing Danish ships.

Danish Aerotech specialises in the production, modification and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and electronic parts and assemblies for aircraft and helicopters. The company has its headquarters at Karup Air Base where it has 15,000 m2 of hangars, specialised workshops and stores.
